Adam “Unept” Corey, originally created Level Devil as a humorous way to troll his friends. What he didn’t expect, was for Level Devil to become one of 2024’s spotlight Indie games. Released on the gaming platform Poki in 2023, Level Devil skyrocketed in popularity amassing over 1 million likes on the gaming platform. What makes Adam’s story even more interesting is that he used Stencyl, a no-code game engine that lowers the barrier to entry for aspiring developers. His success bolsters the idea that anyone can create a game, even without traditional programming skills.
Level Devil is a frustratingly funny 2-D platformer set in a colorful minimalist world inspired by classic platforming games like Pitfall. The main character is a little pixelated person trying to make their way to a door to escape the place that they are in. What seems like an easy task, becomes increasingly difficult as the rooms shift, doors disappear and a plethora of shenanigans ensue. The levels are fairly easy to get through once you’ve died a few times, but Level Devil will leave you either cracking up or needing a new mouse.
The numbers speak for themselves when it comes to Level Devil’s success. Their original Poki trailer racked up 3.6 million views and an additional 50+ million views from streamers and YouTubers. Naturally, with a ton of eyeballs on it, Level Devil is taking the next step with the launch of its Steam demo on February 14th. Level Devil will also be featured in Steam Next Fest starting February 24, along with dropping a new hype trailer. Players can look forward to a demo build which includes new levels and a 2-player co-op mode.
As Level Devil trolls its way into its next chapter, this so-called “hidden gem” is quickly becoming anything but hidden. Level Devil will release on Steam on March 25
